A couple years ago now, I launched a natural fertility online workshop – these are some of the videos I shared back then. I have a friend who is an expert in all things related to Iyengar restorative yoga and she so graciously offered to show me some poses/postures that would help to benefit fertility.
Please note – these are not professional recordings. And I am learning these poses for the first time, so be nice. Also? Always consult your health care practitioner before starting a new exercise program.
If you’re looking for a full length, professionally done DVD, I suggest Fertility Yoga with Monica Morell. It’s well done and (at least for me) right to the point about doing yoga.
*I also understand that the practice of yoga can be a controversial one. If you for any reason feel uncomfortable, or feel that it goes against your beliefs, please don’t feel like you have to do yoga to be healthy/fertile/etc. It’s only one avenue of healing and there are plenty of other forms of exercise and healing out there – find what fits you best!
My friend Jennifer walks me through the pose “Upavista konasana” meaning extended wide angle pose. This seated posture stimulates the ovaries and helps to regulate the menstrual cycle and bring circulation to the pelvic organs.
Here she walks me through the pose “Baddha konasana” meaning bound angle pose. Again this pose stimulates the ovaries and helps to regulate the menstrual cycle and bring circulation to the pelvic organs.
Next is the “Supta baddha konasana” or reclining bound angle pose. Along with the same benefits as the first two it also helps relieve depression when practiced with a support that opens the chest and improves respiration. It’s a wonderful pose to practice during menstruation, when tired or stressed, and throughout pregnancy. The supported version is more relaxing for nervous system. Also helps reduce stress.
