I’ve spent some time reading a few great articles this week:
It Starts Here: the HPA axis part one – a good article about the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and why it matters to your hormone balance. For women, the first manifestation of HPA axis problems may come from dealing with infertility, irregular cycles, extreme mood swings, or intense menopausal symptoms.
Touching Mountains – Infertility can cause us to question our faith. Do we have enough to move those mountains? It only takes a mustard seed right? So why are our hopes and dreams and prayers not coming true in the ways that we want?
Vaginal steam baths – Yes, you heard that right! Supposedly good for painful periods, infertility, fibroids, and more.
How clutter affects your brain (and what you can do about it) This is definitely an area of my life that I struggle with, constant clutter! It drives me crazy and I need to figure out a way to reign it in soon.
MTHFR, Hashimoto’s and nutrients – Do you deal with Hashimoto’s? It’s important to know if you also have MTHFR.
What’s up with adult acne? A good look at why your liver may be causing your acne.
Photo fun:
Last week I picked two bushels of peaches (not organic, so no, I don’t have a fabulous source for you) and about bit off more than I could chew. I ended up drying a dehydrator full of them and froze the rest. Actually, I still need to bag up the last batch in the freezer.
I don’t miss cleaning stalls or the massive amounts of work it took to show horses, but I do miss riding. (And the fitness that came along with it!) The black pony (Domino) was mine to show for two years and the paint (Lady) was mine to show for three. I snapped this one as they followed me out in the pasture while I was foraging for elderberries.
If you didn’t catch this on facebook, we finally refinished our dining room table! After 13 years it was getting quite beat up and the finish was sparse in areas. The sun also yellowed the finish so much that the leaf was a few shades darker – so embarrassing when we had company over!
Here’s a before and after. The “yellowed” photo may not look horrible, but it definitely was very yellow in color.
Also, have I told you yet about my new favorite alternative therapy? I’ve been seeing Christine at ie3 in Grand Rapids for quite a few months now and absolutely love it. Between the maya abdominal therapy and medical massage and therapy, I’ve seen positive changes in my body, don’t deal with the aches in my neck and back anymore, and I learn so much about the body from her.
If you’re interested in learning just a bit more about massage, you can check out the end of my podcast with Stephanie Brandt Cornais from Mama and Baby Love. We talk about it a little bit near the end.

Great articles, thanks for sharing. I bet you loved riding, I grew up with a pony as a little girl, what great memories. Oh…and please tell Christine I said “hello”! She is fantastic.

I’ve heard of them. A couple good reviews…and a couple bad ones. 😀 I’ve been seeing a DO that used to be part of that practice and so far she’s been fine for what I’ve needed.
