Raw Chocolate Pudding

June 30, 2010 //  by Donielle Baker

Creamy and chocolaty goodness normally means it’s a dish you need to stay away from, but this raw pudding is a wonderfully healthy indulgence and it’s a treat I don’t mind serving to my family.

Β This quick dish helps to satisfy your sweet tooth and you don’t need to feel bad about indulging.

Recipe: Raw Chocolate Pudding

Author: Donielle

Ingredients

  • 1 really ripe banana
  • 1 avocado
  • 1/8 cup cocoa the better the cocoa, the better your pudding
  • 2-3 tsp raw honey maple syrup, or rapadura
  • optional – milk or coconut milk if it needs to be thinned for blending
  • Optional Add-ins:
  • 1/4 cup yogurt increase honey to 1/4 cup
  • Tbsp almond butter
  • Tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • few fresh mint leaves

Instructions

  • Put all ingredients into a food processor or blender and blend until well mixed.
  • If needed add milk 1 Tbsp at a time to ease blending and to get the right texture. (You can also add in a bit more sweetener if desired. Especially if your kids are used to regular boxed pudding) You can serve immediately, but I like mine well chilled.

Notes

Toppings: sliced fruit or berries, Tbsp of fresh cream, 1 tsp or so of GF, CF, SF mini chocolate chips

I’ve made a version of this for my family twice this week – so satisfying!

I’m not sure I can get my husband to eat this if he figures out there is avocado in it (he is amazing at figuring that stuff out). Otherwise it sounds fantastic.

@Heather, Try it!! and let me know if you can sneak it past him! πŸ™‚

Heather, he won’t ever know, you don’t taste it. I’ve made a version of this, but I use coconut oil. It really helps it to set up in the fridge, but then it tastes more like a frosting than a pudding. But that’s ok too. πŸ™‚

@Paula, Ooo, I didn’t think about it setting up in the fridge with coconut oil! I’ve put in before but we’ve eaten it right away. That would make a good frosting!

        @donielle,

I think you are right about making a great and healthy frosting. Gotta try it. Sounds yummy! Thanks for this post. I discovered this on another blog awhile back and have been enjoying it ever since.

I love this recipe! I make it whenever I have a sweet tooth. I call it Deceptively Delicious Chocolate Pudding because you would never know it has banana and avocado in it.

Here is my recipe for it – http://thecoconutmama.blogspot.com/2010/05/deceptively-delicious-chocolate-pudding.html

I don’t know if I’d eat this because I don’t like banana or avocado, but I’m betting both my kids would! My daughter loves chocolate and bananas. Hmm…maybe I should make this soon just for them….

@Kate, You might be surprised! The cocoa hides a lot and you can’t taste the avocado whatsoever. Maybe a touch of banana though. πŸ™‚

I am not really a banana fan, but I do love using avocado as a base for puddings. For some reason, it goes really well with chocolate! Great recipe!

    Hi Donielle,

Thanks for posting this today. I went ahead and made this today and it was heavenly! I added a couple tablespoons of raw cream in while I was blending as well as a raw pastured egg yolk to make it more nutrient dense. I also love puddings with whipped cream, so I went ahead and whipped up some raw cream to dallop on top. Wow, so good!

@Christine Kennedy, Oh man – a raw egg yolk? Why didn’t I think of that? doh!

Thanks for the great tip – I’m putting that in next time!

This is wonderful as is, but I’ve also added a couple drops of mint extract and it covers the avocado flavor even more.

I soooo wanted some fresh pudding and didn’t want to buy store bought “crap”. Found this recipe and was sooo excited that I had what it took to make it and enjoy the taste. Mine came out with the touch of banana, but it was sooo yummy I had to run to the store and buy more “avacados” …. wow! Thank you for making real food work and taste good! LOVE….LOVE… LOVE when we use real food and not the preservative junk at the store! Keep it up… Love your site!
